A twice-weekly live, recorded call on Zoom. A dive into each category of natural hide tanning -> plus the how-tos on building your own tanning practice.
We talk hide sourcing, hide preservation, and techniques to make it work for you.
You get guidance to build the 2 pieces of tanning equipment every tanner needs: a scraping beam + softening frame.
Winter 2026 is an ambitious Hide Club program. We are tanning:
Fishskin Leather
Bark-tanned Sheepskin Rug
Smoked Deer Buckskin
BYO fish skin (we show you how to skin a fish fillet) or sub for rabbit or small pelt.
BYO sheep + deer hides or purchase a Materials Kit and receive these hides from us.
If you are brand-new to this craft
Or if you’re tanned on your own and you know how daunting it is
And most of all, if hide tanning means more to you than you can say
You belong in Hide Club.
Hide Club gets you situated with confidence in the complexities of this natural craft, from its methodology to its cultural contexts to its re-creation in your everyday life.
What you get in HIDE CLUB
You’ll know exactly what’s going on under the microscope in hide tanning
You’ll learn the difference between each natural method + how to experiment, hybridize, and innovate
You’ll be able to re-create the process at home long after the program ends
You’ll be a more knowledgeable, perceptive, and skillful tanner
More details coming after general entry opens
Our Tuesday + Thursday schedule with hide tanning details will be posted here
Our guest speak this season: Meagon Anishibanie, hide tanner, trapper, and educator
We explore options how to adapt this complex craft into everyday life. We hold reverence for the animals whose hides we work. We respect the lineages that innovated this craft tradition. We explore our own lineages + connect hide tanning to them. We talk science. We tell stories. We laugh at our mistakes. And we’re here for the awkward parts of learning as much as for the game-changing aha! insights that you get with each hide you tan.
