Working with the right tool for the task makes all the difference. Investing in tools that work for you is a big step in building your own hide tanning practice.

The following list is our recommended tool selection for Hide Club winter 2026. We know it’s not possible to purchs every tool rght away, so we wrote “optional” next to the tools you could forego in a pinch (make a garbage bag poncho instead of an apron, for example).

Hide Club Winter 2026

• A stick (think: dowel, sturdy shovel handle)

• A wet scraper/flesher - we call this The Scraper

• A waterproof apron (optional)

• An awl (optional)

• A pumice stone (optional)

• A dry scraper

• A pet brush or comb

• A softening cable

You do not need:

• An Adze or heavy duty dry scraper

• A planer
